Take off your shoes

This blog anticipates the third week of the Season of Creation: beginning on Sunday 18th August:

 We bow to the presence of God in all creation and we also bow to the presence of God in the heart of every person.

You are here, so this is holy ground. In all that is You are here. This is holy ground, the ground of my being now. My spirit bows to You upon this holy ground.

Before each reading, the reader places a pair of shoes at the prayer focus.

Reflection 1:

Holy Ground is any place where we experience God: where we learn that we're not alone and where we discover that God provides us with what we need to be, who we're being called to be, and do what we're being called to do. It is the place where God challenges us. Holy Ground is a place of new beginnings.

Scripture Reading: Exodus 3:5-6

Then he said, "Come no closer! Take off your shoes, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground." He said further, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

Reflection 2:

O child of unnecessary shoes cast them off and stand in readiness on this holy ground.

For the Egypt in people's lives demands that you see the burning bushes all around you aflame burning wildly calling you away from the comfort of well-protected feet.

Reflection 3: Holy Ground

… a missionary must respect the culture of a people, not destroy it. The incarnation of the gospel, the flesh and blood which must grow on the gospel, is up to the people of a culture. The way people might celebrate the central truths of Christianity; the way they would distribute the goods of the earth and live out their daily lives; their spiritual, ascetical expression of Christianity if they should accept it; their way of working out the Christian responsibility of the social implications of the gospel - all these things, that is: liturgy, morality, dogmatic theology, spirituality, and social action would be a cultural response to a central, unchanging, supra-cultural, uninterpreted gospel.     Vincent J Donovan

Reflection 4:

How have I grown in the awareness that my story and others' stories are interconnected and that our story is the continuation of God's story of communion?

Prayers of Intercession:

Response: God of all cultures, hear and heal us!

Create in us a heart that feels deep gratitude for our origin: our family, life situations, nationality and cultural heritage. R/

When we think that one culture is superior to another and one opinion is better than another R/

When our negative thoughts of others prevent us from being compassionate and understanding R/

When our cultural prejudices rise and we succumb to being judgmental instead of being sensitive and appreciative of different cultural values R/

O God, let us discover and respect ever more deeply the sacredness of the ground where we are, the sacredness of the other we meet, the sacredness that reflects your presence in all creation.

The Lord's Prayer – in the richness of our own language.

Loving God, we recognize your great ability to break through our distances, structures, borders and rules in order to speak to us wherever we are the words once spoken to Moses, "Take off your shoes, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."                                     Help us to live this truth!

Enleve tes chaussures

Nous nous inclinons devant la présence de Dieu dans toute la création ;

nous nous inclinons aussi devant la présence de Dieu dans le cœur de chaque être humain.

Tu es ici ; c'est donc une terre sacrée. Dans tout ce qui est, tu es là.

C'est la terre sacrée, la terre de mon être maintenant. Mon esprit s'incline devant TOI sur cette terre sacrée.

Avant chaque lecture, la personne qui lit, place une paire de chaussures au centre de la prière.

Réflexion 1:

La terre sacrée est tout endroit où nous faisons l'expérience de Dieu, où nous apprenons que nous ne sommes pas seuls

où nous découvrons que Dieu nous fournit ce dont nous avons besoin pour être ce que nous sommes appelés à être

et pour faire ce que nous sommes appelés à faire.

C'est le lieu où Dieu nous met au défi. La terre sacrée est un lieu de nouveaux départs.

Lecture du livre de l'EXODE 3, 5-6

Dieu dit alors : « N'approche pas d'ici ! Retire les sandales de tes pieds, car le lieu où tu te tiens est une terre sacrée ! » Et il déclara : « Je suis le Dieu de ton père, le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac, le Dieu de Jacob. » Moïse se voila le visage car il craignait de porter son regard sur Dieu.

Réflexion 2 :

O enfant des chaussures inutiles jette-les et tiens-toi prêt sur cette terre sacrée.

Car l'Egypte dans la vie des gens exige que tu voies les buissons ardents tout autour de toi, enflammés, brûlant sauvagement, qui t'appellent,

loin du confort des pieds bien protégés.

Réflexion 3 : Endroit sacré

... un missionnaire doit respecter la culture d'un peuple, et non la détruire. L'incarnation de l'évangile,

la chair et le sang qui doivent croître sur l'évangile, dépendent du peuple, d'une culture. La manière dont les gens célèbrent

les vérités essentielles du christianisme, la manière dont ils distribuent les biens de la terre et vivent leur vie quotidienne,

leur expression spirituelle et ascétique du christianisme, s'ils l'acceptent, leur manière d'assumer la responsabilité chrétienne

des implications sociales de l'évangile - toutes ces choses, c'est-à-dire la liturgie, la moralité, la théologie dogmatique, la spiritualité et l'action sociale, sont une réponse culturelle à un évangile central, immuable, supra culturel et non interprété.   Vincent J Donovan

Réflexion 4 :

Comment ai-je grandi dans la conscience que mon histoire et celle des autres sont interconnectées, et que notre histoire est la continuation de l'histoire de communion de Dieu ?

Prières d'intercession :

Réponse : « Dieu de toutes les cultures,

entends et guéris-nous ! »

• Crée en nous un cœur qui ressent une profonde gratitude pour notre origine : notre famille, nos situations de vie, notre nationalité et notre héritage culturel.R/
• Quand nous pensons qu'une culture est supérieure à une autre et qu'une opinion est meilleure qu'une autre. R/
• Lorsque nos pensées négatives à l'égard des autres nous empêchent d'être compatissants et compréhensifs. R/
• Lorsque nos préjugés culturels s'exacerbent et que nous succombons au jugement, au lieu d'être sensibles et d'apprécier les différentes valeurs culturelles. R/

O Dieu, fais-nous découvrir et respecter toujours plus profondément la sacralité du sol où nous sommes, la sacralité de l'autre que nous rencontrons, la sacralité qui reflète ta présence dans toute la création.

Prions « Le Notre Père » - dans la richesse de notre propre langue.

Prière finale :

Dieu d'amour, nous reconnaissons ta grande capacité

à briser nos distances, nos structures, nos frontières et nos règles, pour nous adresser, là où nous sommes, les paroles que tu as prononcées jadis à Moïse : " Enlève tes chaussures, car le lieu sur lequel tu te tiens est une terre sacrée." Aide-nous à vivre cette vérité !
