Marie Francoise Perroton has set us an example of "hearing a call" and setting out in response to this call of the women of Ouvea in 1845.
We SMSM have tried to follow in her footsteps by continually discerning the signs of the times, and responding to new calls for missionary service.
In May last year I was invited to apply for the position of Safeguarding Advisor for the Archdiocese of Wellington, New Zealand. This position was established partly in response to the findings of the current Independent Inquiry into the abuse of children and vulnerable adults, in the care of the state and faith-based organizations, including the Catholic Church.
Sr Kathleen Ruck (regional leader) and I discerned this invitation as a response to a missionary priority in the Church in New Zealand (Const 19). It is also in accord with our Marist and missionary charism of being with Mary at the service "of a new church coming to birth". We also recognize that this service may have a spin-off for SMSM, as we all work at implementing our own congregational protocols.
I will never forget signing my contract on 23 July 2021, Fourvière Day. In July, while attending the Pasifika hearings of the Royal Commission, I completed the Safeguarding course taught by the Te Kupenga Catholic Institute.
We acknowledge the reality of abuse, and a call to repentance, that calls us forward in hope in the creation of a "new church" that is safe for all.

We achieve this through education and spiritual formation, the establishment of safe practices by both salaried and volunteers in church ministries, attention to complaints of malpractice, compliance with church protocols for professional standards.
This is rooted in a spirituality of "trying to live daily the Gospel values of communion and reconciliation … (becoming) witnesses to God's love and instruments of divine mercy" (Const 26)

The purpose of the Congregational Mission Advancement Team is to promote the mission of the Congregation, through establishing a broad-based group of friends and partners who will support and advance the mission entrusted to smsm. Through MAT we hope to share the story of our mission, and to seek assistance where needed.

Marie Françoise Perroton nous a donné un exemple d' « entendre un appel » et de partir en réponse à cet appel des femmes d'Ouvéa en 1845. Nous les SMSM, nous avons essayé de suivre ses traces en discernant continuellement les signes des temps et en répondant aux nouveaux appels pour le service missionnaire.
Au mois de mai de l'année dernière, j'ai été invitée à postuler pour le poste de conseillère à la maltraitance pour l'Archidiocèse de Wellington en Nouvelle-Zélande. Cette position a été établie en partie en réponse aux conclusions de l'enquête indépendante en cours sur la maltraitance des enfants et des adultes vulnérables, sous la responsabilité de l'État et des organisations confessionnelles, y compris l'Église catholique.
S. Kathleen Ruck (Supérieure Régionale) et moi-même avons fait un discernement sur cette invitation comme une réponse à une priorité missionnaire au sein de l'Église de Nouvelle-Zélande (Const 19). C'est aussi en accord avec notre charisme mariste et missionnaire d'être avec Marie au service « d'une nouvelle Église qui est en train de naître ». Nous reconnaissons également que ce service peut avoir des répercussions sur les SMSM, car nous travaillons toutes à la mise en œuvre de nos propres protocoles de Congrégation.
Je n'oublierai jamais la signature de mon contrat le 23 juillet 2021, jour de Fourvière. En juillet, alors que j'assistais aux audiences Pasifika de la Commission Royale, j'ai suivi un cours sur la protection des enfants et des adultes vulnérables dispensé par l'Institut Catholique Te Kupenga.
Nous reconnaissons la réalité sur les abus et un appel à la repentance qui nous poussent à avancer dans l'espoir de la création d'une « Nouvelle Eglise » sûre pour tous.

Nous y parvenons par l'éducation et la formation spirituelle, la mise en place des pratiques sûres de la part des salariés et des bénévoles dans les ministères de l'Eglise, l'attention aux plaintes pour faute professionnelle, le respect des protocoles de l'Eglise vis-à-vis des normes professionnelles.
Ceci est enraciné dans une spiritualité consistante à « essayer de vivre au quotidien les valeurs évangéliques de communion et de réconciliation… (Devenir) témoins de l'amour de Dieu et instruments de la miséricorde divine ». (Const 26)
